On Saturday, April 24 from 10:00am to 5:00pm., the Atomic Testing The Atomic Testing Museum will have its next family fun day, "Journey Through Japan" on Saturday, August 7th from 10 am-5 pm. In collaberation with the Japanese American Society of Nevada and the Japanese Citizen's League, "Journey Through Japan" is a family-centered Japanese cultural festival designed to increase historical awarenesss of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WWII.
Children will receive a "Journey Through Japan" passport that will include a passport photo of the child in traditional Japanese dress. Participants will also enjoy activities such as; a puppet show of "Sadako and the 1000 paper Cranes", a Taiko drummer demonstration, origami folding, Chopsticks game, Japanese Martial Arts demonstration, Japanese Archers, and other events to be announced.
The event is $5 per person which includes event activities and entrance into the museum. Museum members are FREE.
This event is funded through a grant from the Center for Global Partnership, Japan Foundation.
About the Atomic Testing Museum
Founded in 1998 to preserve the legacy of the Nevada Test Site, the museum's parent organization, Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation was founded with a mission to document and interpret the unique history associated with 50+ years of nuclear weapons research and testing conducted at the Test Site. At the Museum we interpret that history for the public. We strive to conserve this history and place it within the context of state, national, and global importance.
The Atomic Testing Museum is open 7 days a week, Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5pm and Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm; last tickets are sold at 4:30 p.m. to allow time to tour the Museum. Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for Seniors, Military w/ ID, and Students w/ ID. $9 for Youths 7-17. Children under 7 are FREE.
The Atomic Testing Museum is an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and a member of the American Association of Museums. We are located at 755 E. Flamingo Road, between Paradise and Swenson on the south side of the street. We have ample parking and are ADA accessible.
